“I make sure whoever is part of my team knows what to do and always to the highest standard.”

Hugh Lever, Event Operations & Logistics Operative. Events.

How long have you been at Rhino?

Officially, I have been at Rhino for 6 years, however I have been setting up VIP events for over 15 years. I did subcontract work for Rhino, firstly Eminent events, then Apollo events and then officially signed up to Rhino!!

Tell us about your role as Event Logistics Operative. What does it entail?

There are several aspects to being an event operative. If I am not travelling over the UK or Europe setting up events, I can be situated in our warehouse, checking equipment, stock checking items, preparing for future events.
I also do lots of DIY in and around head office and within the unit. I like to turn my hand to most things, and I like to think I do a really good job!
I will also be undertaking a new role of training new staff or subcontract workers when events are above capacity. This is something I will really enjoy as I set myself high standards.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Most mornings we start at 7:00, unless we are out on an event. Potentially we can be starting at 04:00 depending on where the event is taking place. So I could be driving to London one day and Scotland the next.
I could be checking music systems or packing away drape ready for the next event.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

The thing I enjoy the most is travelling around. I think the whole team feel the same. Getting around different places, meeting new people on a weekly basis. Being out on a job, it’s like you are your own boss. I am a team leader, I make sure whoever is part of my team knows what to do and always to the highest standard.

What motivates you in your career?

I always complete jobs to the best of my ability. So, when I receive good feedback from a job, it makes me feel good. I love giving new things a try.

Can you give us a little insight into your passions outside of work?

I really appreciate my down time. Relaxing, spending time with my friends and family. I love holidaying in Spain (Majorca) and my favourite time of the year is Christmas. I am also partial to a Clint Eastwood movie and love listening to Elvis.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I set up the very first VIP event with Lee and Danny Bee. I am sure it was Renault Manchester. It’s madness how quickly the business has developed since this day.
I also designed the first tunnel entrance walkway using tripod stands and plywood roofing.

Finally… what is your dream 3 car garage?

Number 1 would be a BMW X5 with colour matching Jet ski (wink wink Lee, my retirement gift), Opel Manta GTE and an Audi Q7 or Q8.
