“We have a fantastic team, from creative to management, to logistics – all working hand in hand to deliver exceptional results.”

Anthony Fletcher, Operations & Logistics Manager. Events.

How did you end up at Rhino?

I was working at an engineering firm as a production controller and was looking for a new challenge. The Events Manager at the time, was a very good friend of mine who suggested Rhino as an opportunity. We spoke regularly about his role within Rhino and what the job entailed – including travel across the UK and Europe, formulating the setup and logistics for all our events. I wanted in!

It turned out it was too good of an opportunity to turn down, so here I am.

Tell us about the role of Operations & Logistics Manager?

Each day is different.

Even though we may set up the same events across the country, each event is different. We have different elements to deal with, different challenges and different logistical queries - but that is what makes it so worthwhile.

The feeling of seeing an Event come together from conception to completion is extremely satisfying. Often walking around the venue with our clients, scrutinising every detail and hearing feedback like “You’ve done a great job, it looks great” – that’s all we want to hear.

The pandemic has of course complicated matters – and as such we’ve had to be a little more reactive than normal. Executing planning and set-up with very little notice has been tough but managing a team that are still as observant about the small details as they were pre pandemic, is the key to our success. We’re a much smaller, dynamic team, with our finger on the pulse always. It’s what makes the job so interesting.

When/Where do you feel in your element at work?

Feedback. For the team and I, receiving positive feedback is still the thing that is most satisfying, despite catering for thousands of retailer events over the years. Plus, from experience, it’s a great morale booster for the entire team. I know when we have done a good job on a specific task, but when someone else picks up on it and issues praise it’s such a great feeling. Appreciation goes a long way.

I also enjoy working under pressure. Knowing that you must perform efficiently to get the desired results. Being the events manager is very different from my previous jobs, however the result is the same. We must deliver a quality event, on time and taking costs into consideration.

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

I know it may sound a little cliché but having the right people from other departments around to support you is key. We have a fantastic team, from creative to management, to logistics – all working hand in hand to deliver exceptional results.

Also, I quite enjoy the travelling. Though often for work, I’ve managed to take in the sites across the UK and Europe, all in the name of my job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I have 3 typical days!!

• Day one – I could be out in a van, travelling to a set up or a break down.
• Day two – I could be situated in the unit, helping the rest of the team preparing for events, organising, or checking equipment.
• Day three – I could be sat at my desk catching up on the paperwork side of the job, replying to emails, checking EU stocks/events.

Describe yourself in 3 words:

Passionate.
Caring.
Driven.

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant, what would it be?

To be super organised!!!

I am a relatively organised person, but there are certain people I have worked with in the past, plus there are several within the company who I really admire for their organisational skills. For me, it just sets a good example and makes people stand out from the crowd.

What is something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t done yet?

I love fast cars. The buzz, the excitement. One of my dreams would be to take an Audi R8 or a Lamborghini around the Nürburgring. Or even just do a bit of driving along the Autobahns throughout Germany. I’m sure the missus wouldn’t mind me going missing for a week while I do some exploring!!
